The Borne Lake - flyfishing for pike, but not only...
check our Borne Lake Website HERE
Borne Lake was created in 1926 through the damming of the Pilawa River. Reaching depths of up to 8 meters it forms the perfect habitat for several fish species, with awesome trophy Pike at the top of the food chain. Most of the lake, however, has an average depth of 2 meters. Shallows, combined with lots of snags, aquatic plants and other obstacles makes it very often difficult to penetrate with spinning, which is commonly fished by 95 % of our guests.
The remaining 5% fish it with fly – and I should say that this is sometimes hugely more efficient.
We consider the lake as perfection for flyfishing for pike, with the challenge of its great size (200 hectares)
Around 20 fish over 1 meter are caught each year.
Every pike over 75 cm must be released (you can keep one fish from 55-75 cm)
Hosts can fish just as the other guests: you do nothing but fish, we take care of all the rest.
The history and the surroundings are fascinating: the region was originally part of a secret German military base, then after 1945 was occupied by the Russians. This base remained a secret until 1993. Prior to that, it only appeared as a white gap on all official maps. This secret base – the town is still visible - makes for a great half-day excursion if guests can tear themselves away from the lake and the fishing.
